Day Zero #86

Number 86 on my Day Zero list is: Read a book I loved as a child

“Once upon a time there was a little girl.

She had a Father, a Mother, and a Grandpa  and a Grandma, and an Uncle, and an Aunty; and they all lived together in a nice white cottage with a thatched roof.”

I loved this book as a little girl. The copy I have now is my mums old copy and it is well-thumbed and warn – as well as the story itself, there is something quite comforting about a well-loved book.

It’s an easy book to read in an hour or two and I still love the little illustrations now just as much as I did as a child. I really enjoyed being transported back to my childhood between the covers of this book.

In the words of Joyce Lankester Brisley:

It’s good to be sitting still,
And it’s good to be running wild,
And it’s good to be by yourself alone
Or with another child.
And whether the child’s grown up,
Or whether the child is small,
So long is it really is a Child
It doesn’t matter at all.
